Tennessee Visions Cover Art Contest
CALL FOR COVER ART IN JURIED CONTEST
The Poetry Society of Tennessee (PST) seeks front and back cover designs of original art for their upcoming edition of Tennessee Voices Anthology. We’d love to see photography, paintings, collages, etchings, line drawings, woodcuts, linotypes, quilts—anything that illustrates Tennessee or Tennessean life in a family-friendly representation.
ELIGIBILITY
1. The artist must be currently enrolled in a Tennessee-based art school or class as an amateur (i.e., non-professional artist who
does not primarily create art to sell for profit).
2. Submissions must be
a. the original work of the contestant, created without use of Artificial Intelligence
b. unpublished in any form, including electronically and placed on exhibition
c. not under consideration or accepted for publication or display elsewhere
3. Artwork must not include the anthology name on it.
4. Your entry must not have won first prize in any art contest prior to entry.
5. No simultaneous submissions.
6. While PST welcomes a variety of themes and topics, we do not accept explicitly violent or sexual content for our contests. Any entries that contain content so deemed by the judges or PST Board will not be considered.
7. Entrants will not be notified if they are disqualified during the selection process.
8. Any artist found to be in violation of eligibility guidelines will be asked to refund any prize money issued to them.
ENTRY
This contest is FREE to enter. The submission window will be open Tuesday, October 15, 2024, through Sunday, December 15, 2024. Please do not call or email to verify receipt. Follow instructions carefully. No simultaneous submissions.
By submitting an entry, you agree to give PST first publishing rights should your piece be selected for publication. Following publication, all rights revert to the artist. You also grant PST non-exclusive electronic permission to post this work in archives and share it through social media and/or live presentations. We ask that you credit Tennessee Voices Anthology if the work is published elsewhere in the future.
PRIZES AND PUBLICATION
1. A jury panel will choose work based on artistic excellence, visual impact, creativity, and adherence to theme. The judges’ decision will be final.
2. Only one submission from an artist can be chosen per year.
3. 1st place will appear on the anthology’s front cover, and winning artist will receive $150; 2nd place will appear on the back cover, and winning artist will receive $100. In addition, winning artists will receive a complimentary anthology copy.
4. Winners will be announced at the PST’s 68th Annual Poetry Festival on April 26, 2025, and notified by email.
5. Art will be printed in full color on the anthology cover, and an artist biography will be included in the anthology. The art and biography may also be reproduced on the PST’s website and appear on PST’s social media channels.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
1. Entrants are asked to submit a cover letter and up to three pieces of art.
2. Cover Letter. Submit one cover letter including:
a. Title(s) of each artwork being submitted with year created, medium, and dimensions
b. Contact information: full name, address, email, and telephone number
c. Name of the art program, school, etc., in which the artist is enrolled
d. a brief bio (no more than 75 words)
3. Artwork.
a. Do not submit more than one piece of art in a single file. Each piece must be submitted as a separate file.
(maximum 3 submissions).
b. Submit files in .jpeg format.
c. File size under 10mb; high resolution files to be submitted if your work is selected.
d. Remove or cover any personal identification from the art; if the piece is signed, the signature should be blurred or covered.
e. Use the following naming convention for files: title, underscore, artist date of birth using 4 numbers. For example, the painting
Tennessee Bridge by an artist born on May 4 would be submitted as Tennesseebridge_0504.
