John Crawford is a native of Ashdown, AR., having graduated from AHS in 1954. He holds earned degrees from Texarkana College, A.A., 1956; Ouachita Baptist University, B.A., B.S. E., 1959; Drake University, M.S.E., 1962; Oklahoma State University, Ed.D., 1968. He is now professor emeritus, Henderson State University, AR.
He has contributed poetry to many journals, state wide, area, regional and national, including College English Association Critic, Christianity Today, Contemporary Poets of Arkansas, Sandcutter, and New England Poetry Journal.
He has read his poetry at scores of state meetings, regional meetings and national conventions including Arkansas Poets Roundtable, Arkansas Writers Conference, Missi- ssippi Philological Association, Louisiana Philological Association, College English Association, and the National States Poetry Society.
Crawford has won several honor awards, including three Sybil Nash Abrams Awards ( AR ), the Georgia Narrative Poetry Prize, the Arkansas Haiku Society Prize, and the Grand Prize of the International Society. In 2022 he was added to the HALL OF FAME of the Arkansas Writers Conference.
He has 5 volumes of poetry published: Making the Connection, 1989; I Have Become Familiar with the Rain, 1995; French Quarter at Eight, 2007; Female Voices from the Bible, 2017, and Just Off Highway 71: Memories in Lyrics, 2021.
